We are really on a roll with sea life crafts lately, and I couldn't wait to add this beautiful angelfish paper craft to the collection. The weaving aspect of this craft gives the finished angelfish project a unique look and adds some fine motor practice to the paper craft activity as well.

Directions for Angelfish Craft for Kids

1. Start by creating your bubble print water background.

2. Paint a large piece of bubble wrap blue paint.

3. Turn the bubble wrap over and place onto white paper.

4. Press firmly all over the bubble wrap to make a print.

5. Gently remove the bubble wrap to reveal your bubble print. (I just love the look of this! We used the same technique when making our party favor bags for Lucy's fish themed birthday party.)

6. Allow the paint to dry completely.

7. Next, make your woven paper angelfish.

8. Print the fish template out directly onto colored cardstock or use the printed fish to trace onto construction paper.

9. Cut out the angelfish shape.

10. Cut a large white circle and a smaller black circle to later form the eye of your fish.

11. Fold the paper angelfish in half and use scissors to cut slits into the middle of the fish. Leave at least a half an inch all the way around to avoid tearing the paper.

12. Cut strips of colored cardstock or construction paper for weaving. (A paper cutter comes in handy for this.) Choose any color you want! It can be a different shade of the color you used for the fish or a completely different color altogether!

13. Weave the paper strips into and out of the fish. (If this is your child's first time weaving with paper, they will need help getting started.)  Secure the ends of the paper strips with a bit of glue.

14. Use scissors to trim off any excess paper hanging over the sides of the angelfish.

15. Glue the white and black circle together to form the eye. Glue it onto the fish.

16. Use a black marker to add a smile to the fish and detail to the tail fin.
